Former President Mwai Kibaki dead at 90

Former President Emilio Mwai Kibaki is dead.

His death has been announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, April 22 at midday.

Uhuru announced that Kibaki died on the night of Thursday, April 21.

The President mourned his predecessor as a leader who steered the country’s economic growth, and democracy and championed the welfare of all Kenyans.

Uhuru remembered him for his role in the realization of the constitution of Kenya in 2010 and overseeing its implementation.

Emilio Mwai Kibaki served as Kenya’s third President between 2002 and 2013.

He is highly remembered for having boosted Kenya’s economy in a major way as well as proving that through education the empowerment of a nation can be achieved.
