IWG expands flexible workspace network with new Thika hub

International Workplace Group (IWG), the world’s largest provider of flexible workspaces, is set to open a state-of-the-art Regus facility in Thika as it scales up operations in response to growing demand for hybrid and flexible working across Kenya.

The new centre, located at Zuhura Place in Thika, marks the latest addition to IWG’s expanding Kenyan footprint and underscores the company’s strategy to establish a presence in fast-growing commercial hubs beyond Nairobi’s central business district.

The Thika opening comes as IWG continues to welcome businesses to its recently launched HQ workspace at The Brick Mall along Thindigua–Kiambu Road. The three-storey mall, which opened in the third quarter of 2025, has attracted strong interest from both established companies and start-ups seeking premium private offices, co-working spaces, meeting rooms and creative zones. Its proximity to Nairobi CBD and availability of on-site parking have made it a preferred base for organisations operating in Kiambu County.

Companies securing space at The Brick Mall will also enjoy priority access to reserve offices at the upcoming Zuhura Place facility, enabling them to establish a strategic network presence across two of Kenya’s fastest-growing commercial nodes.

IWG’s Thika expansion follows a record-breaking performance by the group, which recently posted its highest-ever revenue, cash flow and earnings growth. The company also recorded rapid network expansion, signing and opening more locations in the first half of 2025 than in its entire first decade of operations. Its global network now spans more than one million rooms across 121 countries.

The six-storey Zuhura Place building, which opened in December 2025, is designed to serve both established firms and start-ups across diverse sectors, including steel products, food processing, pharmaceuticals and light manufacturing. Thika and its surrounding areas are home to a range of industries such as steel mills, chemical production, and rubber and leather tanning, making the town a key industrial and commercial hub.

The new Regus centre will offer private offices, co-working areas, meeting rooms and creative spaces, alongside IWG’s “Design Your Own Office” service, which allows companies to fully customise their workspace to suit operational needs.

According to IWG, the building owners partnered with the group to maximise returns on their real estate investment by tapping into the rapidly expanding demand for hybrid working models. Research has consistently shown that flexible working arrangements improve employee work-life balance, reduce costs and deliver health benefits, while employers benefit from higher productivity and greater workforce engagement.

Recent research by IWG and workplace consultancy Arup found that hybrid working can increase productivity by up to 11 per cent. Globally, flexible work models are projected to account for up to 30 per cent of all commercial real estate by 2030, as organisations of all sizes adopt decentralised, cost-efficient workplace strategies.

IWG CEO and Founder Mark Dixon said the Thika opening represents a critical step in strengthening the group’s presence in Kenya. “We are establishing a stronger and much-needed footprint in Thika with this latest opening. As an important business hub, Zuhura Place is a fantastic location to advance our expansion plans,” he said.

Dixon added that the partnership with Wakati Limited will deliver a cutting-edge workspace that responds to shifting workforce expectations. “More companies are discovering that flexible and platform working improves employee satisfaction while delivering significant benefits to businesses. Our model allows organisations to scale up or down at reduced cost while accessing thousands of locations globally,” he noted.

Susan Irungu, Managing Director at Wakati Limited, said the collaboration signals Thika’s growing importance as a commercial destination. “This partnership with IWG is more than a business arrangement; it is a statement about Thika’s potential. By connecting our clients to a global workspace ecosystem, we are elevating our service offering and showcasing Thika as a thriving node within IWG’s international network,” she said.

International Workplace Group operates thousands of locations in more than 120 countries, with members accessing workspaces and business services through the IWG app. In 2024 alone, the group welcomed 899 new partner locations and counts 83 per cent of Fortune 500 companies among its customers, positioning it to capitalise on the accelerating global shift towards flexible and hybrid work.
