Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is getting closer to joining Manchester City.
Oliver Glasner, the manager of Crystal Palace, said the centre-back would not be involved in his team’s matchday squad at Sunderland on Saturday, with the transfer moving towards completion. The Austrian informed reporters that the England international’s transfer was in the “final stages” only months after a deal to Liverpool on deadline day fell through.
The Eagles boss declared that Guehi’s departure is all but certain after Pep Guardiola’s team defeated Arne Slot’s Reds to sign the 25-year-old. He also disclosed that he will leave the team when his contract expires in the summer, placing Manchester United on red alert.
In his pre-match press conference, Glasner said: “My understanding is that a deal with Marc is in its final stages. It is not done, but as a result, Marc doesn’t play for us.
“I mentioned it a few weeks ago, I was pretty clear, every player and depending on his contract has their price and if we want to do it. When the player says, ‘I want to move’, it looks like that is going to happen now.
“Everyone wanted Marc to stay forever but reality is different. I talked to him, it stays between us but I think Marc has shown it in the summer transfer window, it in the whole season so far that he was 100% committed.
