Proparco and Equity Group Foundation Partner to Boost Climate Resilience for Kenyan Farmers with €1 Million Agreement
In a significant move to support Kenya’s agricultural sector, Proparco, a subsidiary of the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) Group, has signed a €1 million (approximately Ksh.141 million) technical assistance agreement with Equity Group Foundation (EGF).
The partnership aims to implement the Climate Resilient Agri-Food Systems (CRAFS) project, focusing on empowering smallholder farmers across Kenya to adopt sustainable and climate-smart agricultural practices.
The CRAFS project, led by EGF in collaboration with Equity Group, is designed to transform the lives of 15,000 small-scale farmers annually.
A dedicated field team will oversee the on-the-ground implementation, while suppliers and value chain actors will play a crucial role in empowering farmers and micro-businesses.
Speaking on the collaboration, French Ambassador to Kenya, Arnaud Suquet, emphasized the importance of the partnership.
“The collaboration between France, through Proparco, and EGF will be key to supporting SMEs and entrepreneurship. This project demonstrates our steadfast partnership with Equity Group, enabling local businesses to thrive and fostering grassroots initiatives in sectors like agriculture, health, higher education, fintech, and renewable energy,” he said.
Jean Guyonnet-Dupérat, Proparco’s Regional Director for East Africa, added, “Proparco is pleased to strengthen its partnership with Equity Group, a leading player on the African continent. Through its Foundation, Equity is driving concrete change by supporting Kenyan actors in agriculture, from small farmers to innovators. Our technical support underscores this commitment.”
Dr. James Mwangi, Equity Group’s Managing Director and CEO, highlighted the broader impact of the initiative. “This partnership with Proparco is another milestone in our journey to empower people and nations. It’s about equipping farmers, families, and communities with the knowledge and support they need to thrive in a changing world.”
