Embattled Nairobi County Assembly Speaker, Beatrice Elachi has resigned. The former speaker said that her life had been threatened. Elachi’s leadership has witnessed oppositions from the Members of County Assembly (MCAs).In October 2018,a section of Nairobi MCA forced her out of office, with several other attempts to oust her in 2018 and 2019.
The former speaker has promised to write a book detailing on her experience as the speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly. The book titled “Chronicles of City Hall” will narrate her leadership during her tenure.
Ruai Ward MCA John Kamangu, the current deputy speaker, takes over as Acting Speaker until the MCA elect her replacement.
