Nairobi, Kenya — August 10, 2026 … Nyayo National Stadium turned into a sea of red on Sunday as Manchester United and Arsenal fans went head-to-head for the second time this year in the SportPesa Xperience and once again, it was the United faithful walking away with the bragging rights, this time by the finest of margins: 5-4 on penalties.
The match had everything fans could ask for. Comedian Jian teamed up with Yasin to hand United a surprise first-half lead, catching an Arsenal side that had started the brighter of the two teams. But the Gunners’ faithful weren’t done Machwani and Telvin Paul struck back to level things up and send the tie into a nerve-shredding penalty shootout.
In the end, composure won the day. United’s captain Eric Omondi stepped up to smash home the winning penalty, sparking wild celebrations among the thousands of fans who had turned the terraces into a red-on-red spectacle.
“We knew Arsenal would come for us, and they did. But when it went to penalties, we trusted ourselves and got the job done. Back-to-back wins, that’s what champions do,” said a jubilant Omondi.
For Arsenal fans’ captain Useful Idioty, it was a case of what could have been. “We dominated large parts of that game and deserved more. Penalties can be cruel, but I’m proud of how we fought back. We’ll be ready for the next one,” he said.
It wasn’t just about the football, either. SportPesa CEO Captain Ronald Karauri reminded fans that the Xperience series is about connection as much as competition. “Whether you support Arsenal, Manchester United or you are a neutral, the fans walked out of the stadium having shared something unforgettable together,” he said.
The day also had a heartwarming moment as Kenyan football greats Francis Onyiso and Dennis Oliech were honoured for their contribution to the sport Onyiso famously walking away with a live goat, handed to him by Omondi himself. MLS-winning Kenyan Lawrence Olum was also celebrated.
With the series now at 2-0 in United’s favour, Arsenal fans will be plotting revenge in the next instalment of what has quickly become one of Kenya’s most entertaining football rivalries.
