Defending SportPesa National Sevens Circuit champions KCB Rugby Club launched their title defence in style. They beat Kabras Sugar RFC 19-12 in the final of the season-opening Prinsloo 7s at Nakuru Athletics Club.
The result was significant. It gave KCB their first Prinsloo 7s title since 2017. This ended an eight-year wait and earned the Bankers a KSh 150,000 winners’ prize.
KCB Fight Off Kabras Sugar
Kabras Sugar made the stronger start. Mike Lukusu capitalised on a loose KCB kickoff that the Bankers failed to gather, putting Kabras 5-0 ahead.
However, KCB responded in kind. Kenya Sevens international George Ooro crossed for their opening try. The conversion sailed through, putting the defending champions in front.
Their lead grew further soon after. Kabras’ Jackson Lukeki was sin-binned for an illegal intervention, leaving his side a man short. KCB made the numerical advantage count: Elvis Olukusi and Vincent Onyala both scored, pushing the lead to 19-5 by halftime.
Still, Kabras hit back after the restart. Brian Mutua converted a try to bring the score to 19-12, setting up a tight finish. In the end, though, KCB’s defence held its nerve. They sealed the win and began their title defence with silverware.
Mwamba Ladies Retain Title, Zetech Oaks Dominate Division One

Defending champions Mwamba Ladies retained their Women’s Division One title. They beat tournament newcomers Kiambaa Ladies 19-0, earning KSh 100,000 in prize money.
Meanwhile, Zetech Oaks produced the tournament’s most dominant display. They thrashed Kabarak University 46-0 in the Men’s Division One final, claiming the title and KSh 70,000.
Circuit Moves to Kisumu for Dala 7s
With the Prinsloo 7s now concluded, the SportPesa National Sevens Circuit shifts to Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu. The Dala 7s takes place August 1-2. Teams will be looking to build momentum as the race for the 2026 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit title continues.
