Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has released a reggae love song, Hit and Run, warning lovers about partners who chase relationships for what they can get without any plan to commit.
The song, which came out on Thursday, October 22, 2026, uses humour and everyday relationship experiences to show the risks of falling for someone who wants the perks of romance without the responsibility.
Its central message urges listeners to spot the red flags early and walk away before becoming emotionally invested in a partner whose intentions are unclear.
In the music video, shot at a resort and along the beach, Maina rides a quad bike while a man playing a hopeful suitor pursues her in an apparent bid to win her over.
The playful scenes reflect the song’s theme, portraying romance as a chase in which one side may care more about what they stand to gain than about building something lasting.
The video also features Kirinyaga Senator James Kamau Murango and MCA David Mathenge, both close associates of the legislator. Murango plays a wealthy man, while Mathenge is cast as a watchman, adding humour and a touch of local political familiarity.
Maina, a trained lawyer known for her human rights advocacy, has a musical past. She pursued music at university under the stage name Carola Jayne and has said she intends to revive that career. The move adds a new dimension to a public profile largely defined by parliamentary work, legal advocacy and defending the rights of young Kenyans.
The 32-year-old legislator has never publicly disclosed whether she is in a relationship.
