The Nairobi City County Government has rolled out a fully automated digital platform aimed at transforming the liquor licensing process by eliminating paperwork, cutting bureaucracy, and improving transparency and efficiency.

The platform, dubbed LiquorPay, integrates the entire licensing cycle, from application and inspection to payment and approval, into a single, contactless system.

County Executive for Business and Hustler Opportunities, Dr Anastasia Nyalita, said the new system is designed to address long-standing bottlenecks that have slowed down licensing and frustrated traders.

“LiquorPay is a fully automated, contactless system. From application and inspection to payment and approval, everything is now integrated, transparent, and efficient,” she said.

Chief Officer for Business and Hustler Opportunities, Lydia Mathia, noted that the platform will significantly ease the burden on entrepreneurs by saving time and reducing uncertainty associated with manual processes.

“The system brings government services closer to traders and removes the frustration of queues and opaque procedures,” she said.

Liquor Board Chair Mike Rabar said LiquorPay will enhance compliance and fairness in the sector through data-driven oversight, enabling authorities to monitor licensing activities more effectively.

On the revenue side, Chief Officer for Revenue Tiras Njoroge said the integration of digital payments will help curb revenue leakages while strengthening accountability and audit trails.

Director of Liquor Licensing Rhoda Otieno confirmed that backend systems have been fully synchronised to allow real-time inspections, approvals, and tracking across all sub-counties, ensuring faster turnaround times for compliant applicants.

The launch aligns with Governor Johnson Sakaja’s broader push to modernise county services, curb corruption, and position Nairobi as a more business-friendly city through the use of technology.
