Vodacom Group today announced the appointment of Mohamed Abdallah as Chief Executive Officer of Vodacom International Markets and Vodafone Egypt.
The move signals a significant step in the company’s “Vision 2030” strategy to streamline operations, accelerate growth, and enhance customer experiences across its African footprint.
Abdallah, currently CEO of Vodafone Egypt, will assume an expanded regional leadership role, overseeing not only Vodafone Egypt but also Vodacom’s operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Lesotho, Mozambique, and Tanzania.
The consolidation aims to unify these key markets under a single leadership framework, fostering greater synergy and driving the Vodacom Group’s strategic priorities.
A veteran of Vodafone Egypt, Abdallah joined the company in 1998 and has held various senior leadership positions, including Enterprise Business Director and Consumer Business Director.
During his tenure as CEO of Vodafone Egypt, he has been credited with delivering robust growth across Consumer, Business, and Financial Services, solidifying Vodafone Egypt’s position as a market leader.
Abdallah succeeds Diego Gutierrez, who stepped down at the end of April after a seven-year tenure as Chief Officer of International Business. Gutierrez played a crucial role in navigating critical transitions and achieving solid performances across Vodacom’s International Markets since 2017.
Under the new organizational structure, the CEOs of Vodacom DRC, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Tanzania will report directly to Abdallah, who will continue to report to Vodacom Group CEO, Shameel Joosub.
Commenting on the appointment, Shameel Joosub stated, “Mohamed is a seasoned executive with a proven track record in delivering strong commercial results. His leadership will be instrumental as we continue to scale our international portfolio and embed our purpose-led strategy across the continent. We are confident that under Mohamed’s expanded leadership, our International Markets will continue to thrive and deliver outstanding results.” Joosub also extended his gratitude to Diego Gutierrez for his “invaluable contributions over the last seven years.”
Mohamed Abdallah expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, saying, “Taking on this new role is a privilege, as I am passionate about driving connectivity and innovation to empower individuals and businesses across Africa. Vodafone Group is uniquely positioned to shape Africa’s digital future, and together with the incredible teams at Vodacom Group, we will work to build a more digitally inclusive future that uplifts communities and accelerates socio-economic development within the Africa region.”
This strategic leadership change underscores Vodacom’s commitment to optimizing its operational model and accelerating its growth trajectory in the dynamic African telecommunications market.
