AXA Global Healthcare has announced a major strategic collaboration with Old Mutual General Insurance Kenya Limited, signaling a long-term commitment to the African market.

The partnership will operate under an exclusive distribution agreement with leading local broker Executive Healthcare Solutions Limited (EHS), positioning AXA for substantial growth in the international private medical insurance (IPMI) sector.

Effective 1 October 2025, all AXA Global Healthcare policies in Kenya will be underwritten locally by Old Mutual, one of East Africa’s foremost health insurers. The collaboration combines AXA’s global healthcare standards with Old Mutual’s trusted local expertise, ensuring regulatory compliance while delivering premium service to customers.

Karim Idilby, Chief Growth Officer at AXA Health International, said: “Collaborating with Old Mutual represents a major milestone in our global growth strategy and reinforces our long-term commitment to Africa. Old Mutual’s leadership in Kenya and across the continent makes them an ideal partner as we focus on the Individuals and SMEs strategic growth segments. Working with such a trusted market leader allows us to deliver meaningful value to customers while strengthening ties in local markets.”

Japheth Ogalloh, Managing Director of Old Mutual General Insurance Kenya, added: “We’re thrilled to collaborate with AXA Global Healthcare to combine trusted local underwriting with world-class international health coverage. This partnership enables us to offer high-quality solutions that meet the evolving needs of individuals and businesses across Kenya.”

The unveiling of the new Executive Global Health Plan was attended by Old Mutual Group CEO Arthur Oginga, M.I.C Global Risk & EHS Chairman Shiraz Maherali, EHS CEO Aly Maherali, AXA Chief Growth Officer Karim Idilby, and Old Mutual Managing Director Japheth Ogalloh. The plan is designed to redefine premium healthcare access by delivering globally supported, locally executed solutions.

Further supporting growth in the region, AXA has entered an exclusive distribution collaboration with Executive Healthcare Solutions Limited. As part of the agreement, EHS’s existing IPMI customer portfolio across multiple African countries will be transferred to AXA for renewals effective 1 August 2025. The collaboration also aims to attract new individual and SME clients in selected markets.

EHS will serve as the sole distributor of the newly developed Global Executive Health Plan (GEHP), a product that provides both regional and global coverage while maintaining continuity of benefits for existing clients.

Andy O’Cain, Global Head of Distribution at AXA Health International, said: “Our goal is to become the leading player in East Africa’s IPMI market. This dual collaboration provides the perfect platform to achieve that. Following our successful partnership with Daman Insurance in the UAE, we continue to build relationships with market leaders. EHS’s regional expertise combined with AXA’s global strength positions us to deliver for both existing and new clients.”

Aly Maherali, CEO of Executive Healthcare Solutions, added: “Our deep understanding of the African market allows us to identify exactly what clients need from their international health cover. Partnering exclusively with AXA Global Healthcare lets us offer solutions backed by a trusted global brand, giving our clients confidence and peace of mind.”

AXA Global Healthcare’s expansion in Kenya follows its recent growth in the UAE and underscores its strategy to strengthen presence in high-potential international markets.
