Kenya has lifted its seven day suspension on all Dubai bound passenger flights after a two-week standoff with the UAE over Covid-19 certificates.
According to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), the ban was lifted on Monday night even though Dubai is yet to lift its ban on flights from Kenya.
“Kenya shall do a NOTAM lifting the suspension of flights to and from the UAE from midnight tonight,” KCAA Director-General Gilbert Kibe said on Monday.
Kibe further stated that the Authority is expecting that Dubai will lift the restriction in response.
Last week, Kenya and Dubai failed to reach a consensus over the ban after Kenya insisting that Dubai must first lift its ban on flights from Kenya, then Nairobi will follow suit.
Foreign Affairs CS Rachel Omamo while briefing the media on milestones made by the ministry in the last two years, stated that there are talks between her ministry, the ministry of health and the officials from the Arab statelet in order to come up with a solution regarding the matter.
In banning flights from Kenya, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority stated that travelers from Nairobi were testing positive for COVID-19 upon arrival in the country whereas they carried negative test results from Nairobi.
This prompted the Ministry of Health to investigate the issue of fake Covid certificates and is expected to table the report findings soon.
