For the second time in a row, the Presbyterian University of East Africa (PUEA) is holding their Annual International Research Conference.

The 3 day event organized by the National research fund (NRF), Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board (KASNEB) and Capital Markets Authority (CMA) seeks to provide a platform for academic discourse based on various research papers.

Speaking on Thursday while addressing the students at the conference, Vice Chancellor of PUEA Prof Peter Kibass challenged the students to participate in such conferences in a bid to learn from experienced scholars as they find solutions to the problems facing the country.

He pointed out the importance of innovation and how it can create jobs which is vital for the students and the society at large as he encouraged members of the public and the students to present new ideas and innovations that would transform and reinforce the comprehensive and sustainable economic progress of the country.

“Through research and dissemination of viable findings, the country would be able to surmount most of this challenges and move towards prosperity, as we continue to focus on improving various aspects in the fields of ICT, Agriculture and Health” he said.

Prof Kibass stressed on the need for universities to establish collaboration with the industry and business sector to bring in new ideas and thinking, developing skill and allowing students to learn about the practical side of things to enhance employability prospects.

Conrad Afande, Assistant Manager Investor Education and Public Awareness at CMA reiterated the VC’s sentiments adding that the youth are important especially to the development of the country.

He further advised the students on the importance of investing in the capital markets and how to allocate money for investment to secure their future and at the same time create wealth.

“The earlier you learn on investing in the capital markets, the better. We say an educated investor is a protected investor,” Afande said.

Being held under the slogan “Research and Innovations that transform and develop society” the event features a vibrant programme of activities and initiatives designed to actively engage all elements of society in the drive to spread the culture of innovation and research.
