198 more recover from COVID-19, while 580 new cases are recorded

Kenya has reported 198 additional recoveries from the coronavirus disease, raising the total number of patients who have recovered in the country since April 1st to 15,298.

While issuing an update on the status of the pandemic in the country, Health Chief Administrative Secretary Mercy Mwangangi said the cleared patients include 119 who were undergoing home-based care and other 79 who were distributed in various hospital countrywide.

Mwangangi spoke when she announced that a one year old patient is among the new 580 patients who were diagnosed with the virus, after 5,458 samples were analysed within a 24 hour period.

The new figure raises the cumulative infections reported in the country since March 15 to 29,334.

The CAS also reported that 5 people had dies of the disease, raising the country’s death toll to 465.

Case fatality rate now stands at of 1.59 percent
