The Government has settled on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as this year’s theme of Madaraka Day Celebrations to be held at the Moi Stadium in Embu County.

Interior Security Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo who made the announcement on Tuesday as he did a physical tour of the Moi stadium said the theme is in a bid to improve and spur economic growth.

The Ministry had earlier indicated that the celebrations would be held at the Njukiri Grounds. Still, PS Omollo clarified that the venue had been changed to Moi Stadium due to reasons related to time and cost.

“The Government has settled on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as this year’s theme of Madaraka Day Celebrations to be held at the Moi Stadium in Embu County, in a bid to improve and spur economic growth,” PS Omollo stated.

Currently, construction works are fast ongoing at the Moi Stadium which has the capacity to host 20,000 people with the majority of the infrastructure set to be ready within the next 45 days.

The project is approximately set to cost Ksh. 300M.

Micro- Small and Medium Sized Enterprises sector is the second pillar of the Kenya Kwanza Bottom Up Economic transformational agenda, where the hustler economy is based.

President William Ruto has made it clear that his administration will support the MSEMs, and the creation of the SME Ministry which CS Simon Chelugui heads are part of measures to spearhead the sector which absorbs the majority of young Kenyans who join the workforce.

The President December last year launched the Hustler Fund which he termed as the game changer in empowering small businesses through affordable credit.
