APS Bomet head coach Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo has been crowned the SportPesa League Coach of the Month for April after masterminding one of the most impressive turnarounds in the league this season.
The experienced tactician guided APS Bomet through a perfect month, winning all their fixtures and reigniting the club’s hopes of retaining its top-flight status.
The recognition, however, carried deep personal significance for the former Kenyan international, who is still mourning the loss of his wife earlier this year.
An emotional Omollo received the award on Mother’s Day and used the moment to pay tribute to his late wife, affectionately known as “Mama Denzel,” crediting her for being a constant source of encouragement throughout his coaching career.
“Today being Mother’s Day, I want to dedicate this award to my beloved wife, Mama Denzel. She was an inspiration to me and supported me throughout my coaching journey. I miss her, and this award is for her,” said Omollo after receiving his personalized trophy and a KES 75,000 cash reward from SportPesa.
Under Pamzo’s leadership, APS Bomet enjoyed a dominant April campaign, defeating Sofapaka, Ulinzi Stars, and Posta Rangers while keeping clean sheets in all three matches.
The victories marked a significant improvement for a side that had struggled for consistency earlier in the season, with the team now emerging as one of the form sides in the league.
Omollo, however, maintained that the battle is far from over, urging his players to remain focused as they continue their fight against relegation.
“We know there’s still work to do to secure safety, so I’m challenging the boys to keep working hard. There is still a lot of football to play, and anything can happen,” he said.
APS Bomet’s impressive momentum has since stretched beyond April, with the club currently on a five-match winning streak and unbeaten in their last eight outings. Their recent 2-0 away victory against Mathare United further strengthened their survival ambitions.
The remarkable run has transformed the mood around the club, with Pamzo earning praise for rebuilding confidence and discipline within the squad during a crucial stage of the campaign.
Mara Sugar head coach Francis Xavier finished second in the monthly award rankings after also posting three wins during the same period, although his side played one more fixture than APS Bomet.
