Shelter Afrique Receives Leadership Award for Housing Finance in Africa

Shelter Afrique Development Bank (ShafDB) has been awarded the “Pan-African Development Bank Leadership Award – A Pioneer in Housing Finance” in recognition of its significant contributions to housing and urban infrastructure development across the continent.

The accolade was presented during the40th Anniversary Gala of the African Union for Housing Finance (AUHF) and the International Secondary Mortgage Market Association (ISSMA).

It acknowledges ShafDB’s42 years of unwavering commitment to advancing sustainable development in Africa’s housing sector. The award was conferred by Ambassador Sharon Trail, the founder of AUHF, who also received a lifetime achievement award at the event.

In his acceptance speech, Thierno-Habib Hann, Managing Director of Shelter Afrique Development Bank, expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating, “This honor is a testament to our mission of transforming Africa’s housing and urban landscape. We are proud of the work we’ve done in collaboration with governments, development finance institutions, private developers, and financial institutions across Africa to provide affordable housing solutions.”

The award underscores the transformative changes at ShafDB, driven by its visionary leadership and the implementation of its ‘New Dawn’ strategy. Last month, the bank was designated as the anchor resource mobilization partner at the African Union’s Inaugural Africa Urban Forum, further solidifying its pivotal role in shaping Africa’s urban development and housing landscape.

Over the past four decades, ShafDB has led various affordable housing initiatives in over40 African countries, playing a crucial role in shaping the housing agenda through long-term financing solutions, green building initiatives, and the support of inclusive community construction.

Looking ahead, the institution aims to build on its achievements by leveraging its expertise and resources to tackle Africa’s housing and urban challenges, focusing on scalable, sustainable, inclusive, and impactful solutions.
