Vilcom Networks, a local internet service provider in Kenya, has announced a major overhaul of its pricing structure for fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) services.

This initiative seeks to enhance value, accessibility, and flexibility for both residential and business customers amid a competitive digital landscape.

A recent statement from the company indicates that the revised pricing strategy aligns with the increasing demands for high-speed internet in today’s digitally-driven world. Vilcom Networks’ CEO, Agnes Limo, emphasized the company’s commitment to catering to the diverse needs of its clientele.

“Our new pricing plans feature competitive rates tailored for both residential and business customers. Many of our plans will include upgraded speeds at no additional cost, ensuring faster downloads, smoother streaming, and improved online experiences. We value our customers, and this revamp is for you,” Limo stated.

New Internet Speed and Pricing Packages

Under the new pricing scheme, customers can choose from a range of packages that cater to different needs. The most economical plan offers 8Mbps for KSh 1,999, while the premium option provides an impressive 500Mbps for KSh 11,999.

This strategic pricing aims to make high-speed internet more affordable and accessible for a broader segment of the population.

Navigating a Competitive Market

Vilcom Networks’ pricing revamp comes at a crucial time when market dynamics have been shaken by the entry of Starlink, the satellite internet service owned by SpaceX. The introduction of Starlink has prompted long-standing internet providers to reassess their offerings and competitive strategies.

Notably, Safaricom has recently unveiled enhanced internet speeds and a new platinum package that offers up to 1000Mbps for KSh 20,000. Additionally, Safaricom’s new Family Share plan allows customers to combine mobile voice, data, SMS, and home internet into a single, shareable package for up to five users.

To further intensify competition, Starlink has introduced its Starlink Mini package in Kenya, available for KSh 27,000 and boasting maximum speeds of 100Mbps. However, the original Starlink kit, priced at KSh 45,000, remains a significant hurdle for rapid adoption since the company’s entry into the Kenyan market in July 2023.
