CBL Group, a leading Sri Lankan food manufacturer, has entered the Kenyan market through a strategic partnership with global logistics provider Expolanka Freight Limited and local distributor Peniel Acumen Distributors. This collaboration will establish a distribution hub in Nairobi, strengthening CBL’s presence in East Africa.
Through this initiative, CBL Group is implementing a comprehensive route-to-market strategy, making its renowned snack brands, Munchee and Ritzbury, readily available to Kenyan wholesalers and retailers. These high-quality biscuits and chocolates, already enjoyed in over 65 countries, are now set to reach a broader consumer base in the region.
“Kenya’s vibrant, youthful market and increasing demand for premium snacks make it an excellent fit for our products. We aim not only to introduce delicious options but also to cater to the evolving tastes and dietary needs of Kenyan consumers,” said Kamal Geeganage, CEO of CBL Foods International, a subsidiary of CBL Group.
Expolanka Freight Limited, a leading logistics firm with an extensive supply chain network in Kenya, will oversee the smooth distribution of Munchee and Ritzbury products to supermarkets, retail shops, and wholesale markets.
“We are excited to collaborate with CBL Group to bring their exceptional snack range to Kenya. Our expertise in logistics will ensure these products are easily accessible to consumers across the country,” said Mr. Wasantha Ranasinghe, Director of Expolanka Freight East Africa.
The introduction of Munchee biscuits and Ritzbury chocolates in Kenya marks a new chapter for CBL Group, a company that started in 1968 with a mission to combat malnutrition among Sri Lankan school children. Over time, CBL has grown into one of Sri Lanka’s most prominent food conglomerates, recognized for its innovation, quality, and sustainability efforts.
Joyce Mukami, Director of Peniel Acumen Distributors, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “This collaboration goes beyond distribution; it’s about ensuring high-quality, internationally recognized snacks are available to consumers across Kenya. We are proud to work with CBL Group and Expolanka to bring Munchee and Ritzbury to the market.”
By setting up a distribution hub in Nairobi, CBL Group is strategically positioning itself to serve not just Kenya but the broader East African region, following a successful expansion model previously implemented in West Africa and Asia.
