Tom Alila, a dedicated advocate for Kenyan football, has officially announced his candidacy for the presidency of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) with an election campaign slogan of ‘Hakuna Kulia na Alila’—translated as ‘No Crying with Alila.’

His mission is to foster a more inclusive football environment that values and empowers all stakeholders in the sport.

In his opening remarks, Alila outlined a vision for Kenyan football that emphasizes transparency, accountability, and inclusivity.

“We are here to chart a new course for football in Kenya, a course defined by our shared values,” he stated, highlighting his commitment to transforming the football landscape.

If elected, Alila plans to implement several key initiatives aimed at nurturing talent from the grassroots level.

His strategy includes significant investments in youth programs and local clubs, as well as a dedicated effort to elevate women’s football. He aims to forge strategic partnerships with schools and community organizations to enhance training, resources, and facilities for young athletes.

“We will launch nationwide grassroots initiatives that not only focus on skill development but also on instilling values such as teamwork, discipline, and respect. Every child in Kenya, regardless of their background, should have the opportunity to play the game they love,” Alila emphasized.

Alila’s commitment to women’s football is particularly noteworthy. He plans to increase funding for women’s leagues, boost visibility through media partnerships, and ensure equal opportunities for women coaches and referees.

He is also focused on inspiring young girls to pursue football, ensuring they receive the same opportunities for success as their male counterparts.

“Importantly, we must acknowledge the immense potential in our women’s football. The Junior Starlets are currently in the Dominican Republic preparing to debut in the FIFA World Cup, a remarkable milestone that highlights what we can achieve with proper investment in our girls’ football,” he explained.

In his vision for professional football in Kenya, Alila advocates for raising the standards of elite leagues to make them more competitive and appealing to players and fans alike.

He proposes establishing clear guidelines for club management, financial sustainability, and player contracts, emphasizing the need for the federation to act as a regulator rather than a micro-manager.

“This I promise to prioritize, as it is a proven good practice all over the world where football is thriving. FKF must be a regulator, not a micro-manager of our leagues,” Alila asserted.

Additionally, Alila is passionate about the welfare of all football stakeholders. He advocates for fair wages, comprehensive health insurance, and support systems for players, referees, and coaches, including mental health resources, career development programs, and retirement plans.

To enhance governance and management within the FKF, Alila plans to establish independent and functional committees to oversee daily operations, focusing on critical areas such as youth development, women’s football, grassroots initiatives, and professional leagues.

These committees will operate with autonomy and accountability, enabling the federation to respond swiftly to the needs of the football community.

With his ambitious plans and clear vision, Tom Alila is poised to make a significant impact on the future of Kenyan football as he embarks on his campaign for the FKF presidency.
