Hyatt is strengthening its commitment to Africa with plans to grow its hotel room capacity on the continent by 50% by the end of 2030. This comes on the back of a remarkable 51% rooms growth achieved in just the past two years, driven by key openings across Kenya, Morocco, Egypt, and Zimbabwe.
Among the most notable milestones is the March 2025 debut of Hyatt Place Nairobi Westlands and Hyatt House Nairobi Westlands—Hyatt’s first dual-branded development in Africa. Located along Lower Kabete Road, the property offers two distinct stay experiences under one roof, situated near popular city landmarks including Westgate Mall, Karura Forest, and the Nairobi National Museum.
“Last year marked a breakthrough year for Hyatt in Africa, and we’re just getting started,” said Stephen Ansell, Managing Director, Hyatt, Middle East and Africa. “Our growth across key leisure and business hubs reflects a strategic focus on having hotels where our guests and World of Hyatt members want to travel most. As we expand, we remain committed to delivering high-quality hospitality experiences that resonate with both global travelers and local communities.”

Looking ahead, Hyatt is set to make strategic entries into new African markets. This includes the highly anticipated opening of Hyatt Regency Lagos Ikeja in Nigeria and the upcoming Park Hyatt Johannesburg, set to launch later this year following a full renovation of The Winston Hotel. The Johannesburg property will feature 31 guestrooms and promises refined, personalized luxury for both business and leisure travellers.
“This is an exciting chapter in the growth of Hyatt’s portfolio across Africa, as we add hotels with intent in high-demand destinations,” said Felicity Black-Roberts, Senior Vice President Development, Hyatt, EAME. “We are proud to collaborate with our trusted owners to thoughtfully introduce Hyatt’s diverse brands to both new and established markets across the region.”
