Mahindra Tractors Partners with Simba Colt to Boost Kenyan Agriculture Sector

Mahindra Tractors will now offer three variants in Kenya, with 25 HP, 75 HP, and 92 HP options.

Mahindra Tractors has announced a strategic partnership with Simba Colt Aspire Ltd. to expand its footprint in the Kenyan agriculture market.

Simba Colt a subsidiary of Simba Corporation Ltd., has been appointed as the main distributor for Mahindra Tractors in Kenya.

The partnership marks a significant milestone in the effort to enhance the farming experience for Kenya’s estimated 4.5 million smallholder farmers. It seeks to support farming mechanization by providing a comprehensive range of reliable and high-performance tractors to farmers, aligning with the government’s objectives of improving agricultural productivity to achieve food security.

During the launch event, officiated by Dr. Paul Rono, Principal Secretary (PS) of the State Department of Crop Development & Agricultural Research, Dinesh Kotecha, Group Chief Executive of Simba Corporation, called on the government to zero-rate the 16 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) currently levied on farm implements, among other incentives for farmers.

PS Dr. Rono commended the partnership, stating that it demonstrates the private sector’s confidence in the local economy and agricultural development opportunities.

Naresh Leekha, Group Managing Director of the Motors Division at Simba Corporation, highlighted the partnership’s potential to introduce efficiency, reliability, and innovation to the Kenyan agricultural sector, promising to revolutionize farming practices.

Kedar Apte, Chief of International Operations at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., expressed delight in bringing Mahindra Tractors to the Kenyan market, aiming to strengthen accessibility and ensure prompt service and support.

Mahindra Tractors will be available through Simba Colt’s branches and dealerships across Kenya, with an industry-leading warranty of 3 years or 3000 hours from the time of purchase.

The partnership comes at a crucial time as Kenya aims to increase agricultural mechanization from 30 percent to over 50 percent of arable land by 2029, as outlined in the Agricultural Sector Transformation and Growth Strategy (ASTGS).
