Veteran Harambee Stars and AFC Leopards fan Isaac Juma has died following an attack by an assailant at his home in Ebuyenje village in Mumias, Kakamega County.

The assailants raided the home at around midnight wielding machetes and unloaded on him in a gruesome attack, targeting his head and back area before leaving him dead. His body has been taken to Butere mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Juma was an ever present fixture at Kenyan domestic and international matches who stood out at stadiums for his tireless dancing, flag waving and the themed color combinations painted on his body.

He has left two wives and 10 children with both his homes put up in Mumias, some 250km away from his Nakuru base where he worked as a newspaper vendor.

Tributes have poured in as news of Juma’s demise spread through the local football fraternity.

“We are heartbroken by the loss of the ever-present AFC Leopards and Harambee Stars longstanding fan Isaac Juma. He was a friendly, ever jovial and passionate soccer supporter. Our thoughts are with the family and soccer fraternity during this painful time. Rest In Peace, Juma.” said the Deputy President William Ruto on Twitter.

The Amani National Congress chair Musalia Mudavadi described the late as an ever present face on the terraces working up fans and his energy was a motivation to the boys on the pitch.

Mumias West OCPD Stephen Muoni confirmed Juma’s death, adding that one of the two key suspects has since been arrested in relation to the incident as a manhunt for the other continues.

“He was in his house when he heard a commotion in his sheep pen. Going out together with his son and brother the two men hacked Juma to death as his son and brother narrowly escaped,” added the OCPD.
