Manchester United fans claimed local bragging rights after edging Arsenal supporters 3-2 in a thrilling fan match at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, in an event sponsored by leading gaming firm SportPesa.

The highly anticipated showdown attracted more than 10,000 football enthusiasts, who turned up to witness Kenya’s passionate supporters of the two English Premier League giants settle their rivalry on the pitch.

The Manchester United side, captained by comedian Eric Omondi, featured popular personalities including YY and Mulamwah, while the Arsenal team was led by content creator Useful Idioty.

United supporters made a bright start and were rewarded with the opening goal from a well-taken free-kick after sustained early pressure. However, Arsenal responded almost immediately, with Useful Idioty finding the back of the net from close range to level the scores and ignite celebrations among Gunners fans.

Eric Omondi’s side regained control and restored their lead through the captain himself. A flowing attacking move resulted in a rebound falling kindly to Omondi, who calmly slotted home to make it 2-1 before halftime.

Arsenal had a golden opportunity to equalise before the break after being awarded a penalty, but their effort was saved by the United goalkeeper, ensuring the Red Devils faithful carried a one-goal advantage into halftime.

The break featured entertainment from award-winning rapper Khaligraph Jones, an Arsenal supporter, who kept fans entertained with a lively performance.

After the restart, Arsenal stepped up their intensity and were rewarded when a powerful long-range strike slipped past the United goalkeeper to level the contest at 2-2.

With the match finely balanced, the decisive moment arrived with just over 15 minutes remaining. United winger Ras dazzled his markers before being fouled near the penalty area. He then stepped up to curl a superb free-kick into the net, restoring United’s lead and sending their supporters into wild celebrations.

Manchester United held firm until the final whistle to secure a memorable 3-2 victory and lift the winner’s trophy.

SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri, who attended the event, praised both teams and the spirit shown by supporters.

“Congratulations to Eric Omondi and the entire Manchester United side for taking the bragging rights today—you earned it. But don’t get too comfortable. A rematch is on the way,” said Karauri.

He added: “This is what sport does. It doesn’t divide—it unites. It turns rivals into neighbours and strangers into friends, even if only for 90 minutes.”

Beyond the result, the event showcased football’s unique ability to bring communities together, with Arsenal and Manchester United fans sharing an afternoon of competition, entertainment and camaraderie despite their fierce rivalry.
