KBL: Kenya Cane Hoists Consumer Experience at Muthiga

Residents of Muthiga got a rare musical treat this past weekend when Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) spirit brand Kenya Cane hosted an elevated consumer experience at Relax Lounge Muthiga.

The revelers were treated to live music performances by a host of entertainers including Rhumbacane Maestro Simply Yaba, Mugithi’s finest Wanjine alongside DJ Sash and MC Prince.

The night also saw surprise appearances and performances by musicians Brian Sigu and Kenchez (H_art the Band). The two are featured on Yaba’s new album “Zitakazopendwa”.

Kenya Cane is keen on offering a platform for authentic cultural Kenyan music anchored on celebrating our diverse cultural identities.

According to Kenya Cane Brand Manager Davis Changalwa, the experience was a culmination of our cultural extravaganzas across the country that have featured local music, art, and cuisine.

“As we continue to mark Kenya at 60, Kenya Cane being a legacy Kenyan brand rooted in Kenyan culture, we are keen to partner with local artists to shape the next 60 years of modern contemporary music rooted in Kenyan culture such as Yaba’s Rhumbacane. We are glad we got to give our consumers at Muthiga this unexpected treat to kick off their festive celebrations as we wait to resume our regional activations,” he said.

The brand continues to set itself apart by offering consumers a cultural blend of great Kenyan music featuring great local talent including brand ambassador Savara and contemporary cultural artistes – Yaba, Ayrosh, Coster Ojwang’, Zaituni Wambui, Akoth Jumadi, Sweet Star, Sammy Wagithomo, Peter Kihambati, Karanga Lazima and Kamwana among others.

The cultural extravaganzas which kicked off at The National Museum last year, have been hosted in Nakuru, Thika, Kisumu, Mombasa, Kitui, Narok, and Eldoret showcasing Kenya’s rich cultural diversity.

KBL Launches Senator Beer Campaign for Consumers

Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), through its low-end flagship beer brand, Senator Keg, has today announced a nationwide consumer campaign dubbed Jipe Form na Senator Ushinde that aims to reward its consumers as well as drive its sustainability agenda.

The Kshs 97 million campaign, dubbed, Jipe Form Na Senator Ushinde, seeks to enrich the lives of Senator consumers and communities, nationwide.

The three-month-long campaign, worth Kshs 97 million, will see five (5) grand lucky winners win Ksh2 million each, with each winner receiving Ksh1 million to invest in their personal growth and another Ksh1 million to be donated to a community of their choice.

Additionally,20 consumers will receive monthly home makeovers monthly, 12,000 winners will receive weekly shopping vouchers, and a whopping 1,980,000 winners will receive daily Cash and airtime vouchers. These rewards underscore the Senator’s commitment to the welfare of its customers.

While announcing the initiative, KBL Managing Director Mark Ocitti said that the company has invested over Kshs 200 million in the initiative, demonstrating its steadfast commitment to promoting social sustainability and economic empowerment in Kenya. He stated that as a sustainable business, KBL will continue to make deliberate and aggressive efforts to empower Kenyans to make informed decisions that will positively impact their social and economic well-being.

“Over the years, KBL has been intentional in contributing significantly to the development and prosperity of the Kenyan economy. Catalyzing the creation of thriving communities is embedded in our vision and sustainability agenda. Now more than ever, we understand that our business must be a force for good. Through initiatives such as these, we are scaling up our commitment to promoting social sustainability and economic empowerment of our communities,” said Ocitti.

Mr. Ocitti added that this is the third edition of the campaign, which has been hugely successful in the past. He disclosed that KBL aims to continue transforming illicit beer market zones into commercial markets while creating wealth for communities in the process. The campaign also seeks to educate consumers on the effects of illicit beers on social, economic, and health progression. Mr. Ocitti underpinned that KBL will continue to collaborate with various business partners and key stakeholders to achieve its strategic intent.

“We are proud of the impact that our previous campaigns have had on communities, and we are committed to making a positive difference in people’s lives through this campaign and future ones,” concluded Mr. Ocitti.

To participate in the campaign, customers need to purchase two 500ml mugs of either Senator Lager or Dark Extra and receive a scratch card. They can then SMS a unique valid code found under the scratch panel to 22110 to enter the competition. Each valid code gives one entry.

Also commenting on the campaign, Senior Brand Manager of Beer Abel Ratemo, said, “Senator KEG is a brand by the people, for the people, and what better way than to reward customers with incredible prizes while empowering them to give back to the community through community development projects.”

The Jipe Form Na Senator Ushinde campaign builds on Senator Keg’s previous successful National Consumer Promotions, which have had a positive impact on communities. Last year’s grand prize winners received Kshs 1 million to partner with community-based organizations and EABL to upgrade lives.

Last year’s 5 grand draw winners picked community development projects worth Kshs 1 million each. They partnered with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) alongside EABL to upgrade lives within communities. The projects undertaken by the winners were as follows:

Furaha Community Organization in Nairobi – Water, Health, and Sanitation
Kambu Water and Sanitation Self Help Group Kibwezi – setting up of solar-powered water station
Bungasi CBO in Mumias West – Setting up three water kiosks
She Is More CBO in Kilifi – Setting up a chicken-rearing business
Green Community Self-Help Group in Njoro – Setting up organic fertilizer processing areas, greenhouse, decomposing shed, and mechanizing the whole operation.

Tusker FC Unveils Additional Signings Ahead of New Season

The big three in Kenyan football, AFC Leopards, Gor Mahia, and Tusker have one thing in common: they are the only clubs in the official 18-team Football Kenya Federation Premier League that are over half a century old.

Tusker FC however stands out as the most successful club in Kenya Premiere League (KPL) with 13 titles.

The reigning FKF League Champions have strengthened their squad with seven additional signings ahead of the 2022/2023 FKF Premier League season.

Tusker FC has secured the services of Defenders Boniface ‘Kajos’ Onyango, and Thomas Teka, a tough tackling defender, from Kariobangi Sharks. The two have been signed for a period of two years.

In the midfield department, the club has signed winger Eric Mmata, also from Kairobangi Sharks, and 18-year-old Green Commandos Sports Club’s budding midfielder and rough diamond David ‘Daddy’ Odoyo. The two have joined the Champions on two and three years contracts respectively.

The club has also bolstered its attack with the arrival of Eric Otieno from Wazito FC and Collins ‘Kante’ Otieno, who was promoted from Tusker’s Youth Team. The two have been signed on two-year contracts.

In addition, the club has reached an agreement with Bidco United FC for the transfer of goalkeeper Brian Opondo who has joined the club for a period of two years.

Speaking during the announcement of the new players, Tusker FC Head Coach Robert Matano said the new players will improve the club’s position heading to the new season.

“We would like to welcome the new players to this great club. This is part of our strategy to strengthen the team as we head to the new season as we look to retain the Premier League title once more. We have made sure to strengthen all departments within the team including goalkeeping, midfield, and attack positions. We expect the league to be more competitive this coming season as we have seen other teams strengthening their squads as well. These players have been carefully selected and will therefore ensure we remain competitive throughout the season,” he said.

Aside from signing in the seven new players, Tusker FC received a brand new team bus from sponsors Kenya Breweries Limited in an upgrade to its transport. The new bus comes as a ‘reward’ for the team’s performance last season. Indeed, hard work does pay off.

Tusker FC will be heading to Mombasa this coming week as it kicks off its pre-season training ahead of the new season.

Matano’s changes will begin their title defense campaign against Posta Rangers on 24th September 2022 at its Ruaraka Grounds.

KBL Partners With Alpha Romeo for the 50th Edition of Concours D’Elegance

The Concours D’Elegance (properly pronounced kon-koor del-i-gahns), dates back to the 17^th Century when the famous and wealthy of European society gathered in the cities of France to celebrate and socialize, as unique forms of art, the latest automobiles as well as the latest of women’s fashion and design.

The early Concours were leisurely social affairs, where lighthearted competitors were rewarded with rosettes. However, man being the perpetual competitor, these events became more defined as time went on.

Trained judges examine each vehicle thoroughly and in its entirety. They rate each and every component. Only those vehicles that are perfect examples are judged as Concours quality, and are considered eligible for a class trophy.

The Kenyan Concours D’Elegance

The Kenyan Concours d’Elégance was founded in 1971 and has been held every year since. It is organized by the Alfa Romeo Owner’s Club Kenya and is sanctioned by the Kenya Motorsports Federation and the FIM Africa. This event has grown to be the biggest motoring event in Kenya and it attracts 10,000 visitors on average.

This year, Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) through its beer brand White Cap will be the official Responsible Drink partner for the 50th edition of the Classic Car extravaganza, Concours D’Elegance.

The partnership will see the company extend its ongoing motorsport strategy that has involved it more recently in several motorsport events under the Kenyan Motorsports Federation umbrella with the aim to encourage the culture of responsible drinking and behavior within the adrenaline sport.

The sponsorship adds to KBL’s already significant participation in several sporting disciplines around the country including; Football, Rugby, Athletics, Volleyball, and Golf among others

Speaking on the partnership, Alfa Romeo Owners Club Chairman, Peter Wanday said.

“We are delighted to partner with KBL through their brand Whitecap welcoming them on board as an official responsible drinking of the 50th Edition of the Concours D’Elegance.”

Speaking during the announcement of the partnership, EABL Group Corporate Relations Director Eric Kiniti noted that supporting this specific proposition was a strategic move at connecting with its motorsport consumers who enjoy both adrenaline sports and the exciting appreciation for Classic vehicles.

Concours D’Elegance is one of the most exciting motorsport events in the calendar year. It brings together the best of both motorsport worlds. The thrill of vehicles and the love of classic vehicles.

He added “This year, as KBL we come on board for the event through our brand Whitecap which mirrors the goals and objectives of the classic event. We strive to create world-class experiences which we feel Concours D’elegance has repeatedly done over the past 50 years.”

KBL also celebrating a milestone moment this year as it marks 100 years in the Kenyan market has highlighted motorsport as a key connection driver with its consumers as it seeks to ramp up its sporting interactions during its Centenary year and onwards.

All About This Year’s Concours D’Elegance

During the partnership announcement, Bob Dewar, Concours D’Elegance Event Director reminisced on how far the event has come.

‘Concours D’Elegance was initially held at the Embakasi motor racing circuit, a venue that could accommodate around 2,000 people. When a legal issue with the venue cropped up, we resorted to the Ngong Racecourse,’ he said.

‘I have never seen a huge crowd as I did on the first Concours D’Elegance at the Ngong Racecourse. The new venue accommodated 4,000 people. A number that seemingly keeps growing. The beer ran out. Food ran out,’ Bob said, eliciting laughs from the crowd in attendance.

2022 marks 50 years for the classic event, one of the world’s foremost classic and vintage leisure motorsport events with representation from all over the world. 30 international entrants are expected for the Golden Jubilee Edition.

EABL intends to use the event as an awareness campaign around responsible drinking, with regard to its commitment towards creating a healthy and safe drinking culture.

“Concours’ attracts over 10,000 fans to the Ngong Racecourse grounds to enjoy. As we create experiences, we are cognizant that we always need to enjoy our motorsport experiences in a responsible manner. This is why as KBL we continue to champion responsible drinking throughout all our interactions.

We recognize motorsport like any other sport has a level of risk when dealing with intricate machines. Our role, therefore, is to reinforce the continued messaging around the dangers of excessive drinking and implore all enthusiasts to drink better not more to ensure a safe and world-class experience for years to come.” Eric Kiniti, EABL Group Corporate Relations Director said.

This year’s Concours D’Elegance will be on 25^th September, at the Ngong Racecourse. The event is from 9 am to around 5:30 pm, accommodating the whole family.
