President Kenyatta to lead Kenyans in viewing the body of Kibaki

President Uhuru Kenyatta is this morning expected to lead Kenyans in viewing the body of the late President Mwai Kibaki as well as paying tribute and their last respects to the former Head of State.

The body of the former head of state arrived just before 7.30am following a procession that began at Lee Funeral Home at about 7.05am.

The president will be in parliament together with other state officials at the precincts.

The cortege will be conveyed to the parliament precincts, draped in the national flag, and on a gun carriage for three days, before his state funeral on Friday, with full military honors and protocols.

The late Kibaki’s immediate family will escort the casket accompanied by a Military Guard of Honor which will be mounted along Parliament Road for the entry procession into Parliament, where President Uhuru Kenyatta will receive Kibaki’s body at 10am.

Religious leaders from different faiths are already at Parliament to facilitate religious rites ahead of the ceremonial removal of the body from the casket in readiness for public viewing.

Nyeri residents will also have their time to pay their last respects as a facility will be set up in the Othaya CDF office for members of the public to pay their condolences and fill the condolence book.

Diplomats, dignitaries and close associates who wish to condole with the family will be allowed to do so at Kibaki’s private office in Nyari, Nairobi, beginning Tuesday.

Condolence books will be made available to the general public in all government ministries, the National Assembly, the Senate and the 47 County commissioners offices across the country from Monday.

The late President will be laid to rest on Friday, April 29, 2022 has since been declared a public holiday to allow for the funeral service.
