The Department of Immigration has issued an important notice to all those applying for their passports on Thursday.
On their Twitter page, the Immigration Department announced a two-hour downtime on their online portal.
The department informed the general public that their portal would not be working from 2-4pm, during which a system upgrade will be made.
“We wish to inform the General Public that our passport services will be closed between 2 – 4pm for system upgrade. We will resume our services from 4pm. We regret the inconveniences caused,” read their tweet.
Applicants have in the past complained of long queues and a stressful process. However, the portal is termed as a quicker way to renew or replace a passport online.
“You can apply for, renew or replace your passport and pay for it online. You’ll have to print out a form at the end. You must sign and date the form, add any documents or photographs that are needed, and return it for processing,” a previous notice by ecitizen read.
The portal which is under the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government helps people apply for a pass, permit, alien card, permanent residence or Kenya citizenship and pay using cards or mobile money.
