Mutua appointed as new MCSK boss

Former Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) boss Dr. Ezekiel Mutua has been appointed as the new CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK).

The appointment was announced by MCSK Board Chairperson Lazarus Muli through a statement on Monday, after a competitive recruitment process.

“Dr. Mutua’s appointment follows rigorous competitive interviews in which he emerged top among the candidates who were interviewed for the position,” said Muli.

“I have received with profound gratitude my appointment to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK). Happy to rejoin the creative industry, this time not as a regulator, but as a promoter and defender of the rights of musicians” said Dr Mutua through his Twitter account.

Mutua while at the helm of KFCB went into loggerheads Kenyan content creators over board censorship where he earned himself the labels like Kenya’s ‘moral cope’ and also ‘Deputy Jesus’ for his criticism and fight clean content for the benefit of a moral society.

Dr Mutua is communication practitioner by profession, who previously served as a Trainee Reporter and Sub-Editor at the Nation Media Group; Secretary General of Kenya Union of Journalists; Director of Information & Public Communications as well as Information Secretary for the government.

He holds a PhD in Communication Studies from Moi University, a Master’s degree in Communication Studies from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor’s in Sociology and Linguistics from Kenyatta University.

“We have the faith that his passion for excellence, as attested by his exemplary performance in the previous positions he has held, will help us to steer the MCSK to the next level,” Muli added.

His appointment as the society’s boss is effective from Friday, March 25.
