How to Verify Your Voter Registration Details

Kenyans are urged by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati to verify their registration details.

This process he says to have begun on May 4 and will be available only for the next 30 days terming it crucial in confirmation of one’s information.

One can verify their registration details either through a text message or by visiting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Portal.

Through SMS one can send their ID/Passport number to 70000 or through the commissions’ website portal https://verify.iebc.or.ke to verify their details ahead of the oncoming elections.

He added that a person whose information is not correctly captured in the register of voters can make a claim to the Registration Officer within 30 days.

According to the chairperson, the earlier announced move by the commission on suspension of application for new registration was to give Kenyans time for verification of their biometric data and particulars of the registered voters.

During the first phase of voter registration, they managed to garner 1.51million new voters rather than the targeted six million voters that were listed in October last year.

Whereby a total of 396,163 registered voters opted for transfer of registration centers as 2,269 altered some of their particulars.

Covering those in Diaspora as well the commission managed to get on board 2,959 new voters and requests of transfer amounting to 2,964 requests while changing of information had 2,036 applicants.
