A bus full of passengers overturns along Thika Superhighway after collision with a lorry in Ndarugo this Monday afternoon.
The Juja sub county traffic police commander confirmed that the bus belonging to Super Metro SACCO, full of passengers, was headed to Nairobi when it collided with the lorry.
He added that investigations into understanding the cause of the accident had been launched.
Amongst the passengers, 15 sustained injuries after the collision and were rushed to hospital.
Videos of the scene could show the extent of damages on both vehicles as the witnesses rushed to the scene in order to rescue the trapped passengers.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) data indicates that up to 3,212 have passed away in road accidents as of September 2021 till January.
In comparison there is a probable 652 increase in accidents as compared to a similar period in 2020 whereby 2,560 casualties had been recorded.
With the southern bypass recording 28 casualties while the Eastern Bypass rounded up the top five list with 27 with 27 road accident fatalities.
Thika Superhighway followed in closely at sixth with 25 fatalities while kangundo Road was listed seventh with 23 fatalities.
